Final Fantasy XIII-2's DLC will feature Lightning as a playable character, reports have suggested. According to Andriasang, the latest issue of Famitsu confirms:

That Lightning will feature as a coliseum character, a battle mode featuring classic bosses from the series. Once defeated, Lightning will be available to add as a party member. The Final Fantasy XIII heroine will also have hecr own set of secret story missions, the exact nature of which are yet to be revealed.

In an interview with unnamed Square Enix representatives, the weekly Japanese magazine also claims that the Final Fantasy XIII-2 story will extend beyond DLC into novels featuring Sazh, his son and the Chocolina character.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America on January 31 and across Europe on February 3.

We kind of made a big deal about FINAL FANTASY XIII-2's soundtrack. Dale drew our attention to the weird rap talk featured in "Invisible Invader" which accompanies the Lake Bresha area as well as the crazy metal remix of the chocobo theme titled "Crazy Chocobo." We're currently working on an artist profile feature that should be live by the end of the week, but as we were preparing it, we noticed a rather interesting response from music coordinator Keiji Kawamori about these two tracks in particular. Kawamori notes:

'Invisible Invader' was the first song that [Naoshi Mizuta] wrote for FINAL FANTASY XIII-2. The fact that it’s a vocal song (rap) makes it a piece that strongly reflects [director Motomu Toriyama's] desire to have a sound that’s unlike the typical FINAL FANTASY title.

But most interesting of all? The international version of the game apparently axes the rap portion all together, leaving behind only the musical accompaniment heard above (check Dale's original post to hear the rap version). In terms of "Crazy Chocobo," Kawamori comments:

I was asked by Toriyama to make it have a fierce song style and for the arrangement to be like death metal... it's a Chocobo arrangement that no one has ever heard before, and I think it’s a good hook within the game.

New comments from the game’s producer have added weight to reports of upcoming story-driven DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2, producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed during a video posted on the Square Enix Blog:

There is more DLC items coming that we’ll reveal when the time is appropriate. We’re not just planning boss battles or costumes but also planning episodic DLC items that will hopefully expand on the universe and the gameplay for Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Famitsu leaks yesterday claimed Square Enix plans to release secret story missions DLC, possibly including some focusing on Lightning, the protagonist of Final Fantasy XIII, much loved by fans but with a backseat role in the sequel. Final Fantasy XIII-2 releases on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on January 31 in the US, and February 3 in Europe. Watch the full interview with Kitase below.

Lighting is coming to Final Fantasy XIII-2's Coliseum mode. But she won't be alone. Joining the FFXIII hero will be Lt. Amoda. Square Enix announced today a final release date of February 7 for this second round of XIII-2's coliseum download content. Pricing is ¥300 on PS3 and 240 MSP on Xbox 360.

Is this a hint at a Final Fantasy XIII-3? Director Motomu Toriyama was asked about the meaning of the statement during a group interview session following a FFXIII-2 stage event at the Taipei Game Show 2012 event yesterday. The game had just seen the release of its Chinese language version on January 31.

According to Impress Watch, Toriyama explained that there are a number of reasons they displayed the message at the end of the game. One is that the game has a number of Paradox Endings hidden away, and they want players to first look for all these endings. Another reason is that FFXIII-2's world will be extended through download content, meaning players can expect a long play experience. They plan on continually releasing download content, said Toriyama. Toriyama also responded to a question about what's next following XIII-2. He repeated that for XIII-2, download content is continuing to be developed, so until the download content ends he hopes to continue working on the game. He noted that Lightning and Amodar are being added to the game's Coliseum Battle mode in upcoming DLC. Separate from this, they're also preparing a large Lightning Episode.

This comment about a large Lightning Episode echoes statements Toriyama and producer Yoshinori Kitase have made in interviews with the Japanese media. In Famitsu and the recent XIII-2 Ultimania guide, they hinted that the game would also see episodes for Snow and Sazh, although they did not specifically say that these would be download content, and even mentioned the possibilites of novels and other media. Toriyama, 1st production department corporate executive (and Twitter updater) Shinji Hashimoto and art director Isamu Kamikokuryo also held a signing event.

During the stage event, Hashimoto was asked by a female fan if Square Enix will release a Chinese language version of the PlayStation Vita version of Final Fantasy X. Hashimoto would only respond that if players support XIII-2, SCE Asia's staff will likely get the message.

Square Enix has sent word that the 'Opponent: Lightning & Amodar' DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2 is out now on Xbox Live and PSN. The DLC includes:

A Colosseum Battle which pits players against Lieutenant Amodar, a member of Guardian Corps, Cocoon's specialist military division.

Also showing her face is Lightning, the main character from the previous game. If you manage to best the duo they'll become available to join your party. The Opponent: Lightning & Amodar is priced at 240 Microsoft Points, and for £1.59 on the PlayStation Network when it's released tomorrow.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC featuring Sazh is due to be released at the end of the month. The Final Fantasy XIII-2 Sazh episode is likely to launch on February 28, costing 400 Microsoft Points (£3.40 / $5).

Players will also be able to download a new casino game, a knight outfit for Noel and a secret piece of DLC. A pink swimsuit costume for Serah has also been outed. Costing 240 Microsoft Points (£2.05 / $3), the alternative outfit is also due to launch in February.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 was given its first downloadable pack last week. The 'Opponent: Lightning & Amodar' pack is currently available to download on Xbox 360 for 240 Microsoft Points and on PlayStation 3 for £1.59 / $3. The pack sees players fight against Lieutenant Amodar and Lightning in the Coliseum area. When defeated, both characters can then be added to the party to use in battle.

Square Enix made a deal with Ubisoft to add an Assassin’s Creed costume to Final Fantasy XIII-2 for the time-traveling hero Noel Kriess. Players will be able to dress Noel up in a costume based on Ezio Auditore in the future. Mass Effect will have a similar collaboration, a source tells Siliconera, with a specially designed Mass Effect costume made for Final Fantasy XIII-2. Square and Electronic Arts working together? Complete Sazh’s scenario and you can unlock him as a party member. Players can also find out a secret about Chocolina if you help her track down chocobos.

Those two items are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC. A source tells Siliconera the coliseum is about to get busy. Square Enix will add cameos from other Final Fantasy games like Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy V to fight. If you win the battle and are lucky enough to get a crystal, Gilgamesh will join Serah and Noel in the monster slot. There will also be a guest villain from Final Fantasy VI, although our source wouldn’t reveal who or what this is. Kefka? Ultros? Kaiser Dragon? Your guess is as good as mine.

Jihl Nabaat from Final Fantasy XIII will also be released as Final Fantasy XIII-2 coliseum character in the future.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 will get a story episode featuring Lightning in May, this week’s Famitsu is reporting. The DLC will expand upon her battle against antagonist Caius, as well as featuring a battle system different to the game’s regular battle system.

Lightning story DLC has been teased before by Famitsu, who said previously it would reveal the hidden truths behind the endings of the RPG. No word on an exact date or pricing as yet.

Square Enix and BioWare are teaming up to release Mass Effect costumes for Serah and Noel, the two main protagonists in Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Unfortunately it appears there's not much else Mass Effect related fun in store beyond a couple of Commander Shepard outfits for the duo, but it's better than nothing right?

Ubisoft has also confirmed a collaboration with Square-Enix that will let FFXII-2 players dress Noel as Assassin's Creed's Ezio Auditore da Firenze. In related news, Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has admitted he 'sometimes complains' about certain aspects of Square's modern FF titles in meetings with its new producer. We don't blame him.

Final Fantasy characters often get critiqued for their outlandish clothes, but what do you think of these high-priced duds? Prada and Square Enix have teamed up to have the characters of the franchise model the clothier's spring/summer line for men.

Lightening, Snow, Sazh, Hope, and more model the clothes in a 12-page spread in the English Arena Homme+ magazine, which goes on sale April 12. Max Pearmain, editor of Arena Homme+ said:

Our Spring issue focuses on a world of direction and escapism, and having a visually stunning videogame franchise such as Final Fantasy work alongside us and a leading fashion brand like Prada to create something so unique is incredible. I've always been interested by the power of videogames and their place in society, and the amount of work that's gone into this project blows my mind. We're incredibly pleased with the result.

Square Enix has announced the final downloadable content for Final Fantasy XIII-2, which hits Xbox 360 today and PS3 tomorrow. The DLC includes two new episodes: 'Lightning's Story: Requiem of the Goddess' will cost 400 MS Points (£3.43) on 360 and £2.99 / EUR3.59 on PS3, while 'Snow's Story: Perpetual Battlefield' which set you back 320 MS Points (£2.74) on 360 and £2.39 / EUR2.99 on PS3.

Additionally, a white mage outfit for Serah and a black one for Noel will each cost 240 MS Points (£2.06) on 360 and £1.59 / EUR1.99 on PS3, while Mog's Outfits: A Wondrous Wardrobe, which includes 16 different costume types for Noel and Serah's Moogle companion, will be available for the same prices. * Snow's Story: Perpetual Battlefield: Snow is engaged in battles at the Coliseum after being separated from his fiancée, Serah. The episode also features a battle against the "Arbiter of Time," who has been watching events unfold at the Coliseum. Snow should pose a difficult challenge to players and will allow them to end the Coliseum battles on a high note, and ultimately unlock Snow as a party member.
