| Dirty Harry | Rumours started swirling regarding a possible follow-up earlier this month, when Square-Enix registered a domain name for XIII-2. The last Final Fantasy game to receive a direct sequel was Final Fantasy X, which saw a follow-up which reused numerous character models, environments and audio. The Final Fantasy XIII-2 trailer will be available for viewing on the official site from January 20. Square Enix also announced Final Fantasy Type-0 for PSP, which is actually the renamed Agito XIII. | Dirty Harry | Final Fantasy XIII-2 will launch in Europe and other PAL territories next winter, Square Enix has announced. The role-playing game features a brand-new story and an evolved battle system. Its debut screenshot is below. XIII-2 is the direct sequel to March 2010's Final Fantasy XIII, which has shipped a cumulative total of six million units worldwide. The team responsible for XIII is at the helm, including director Motomu Toriyama. It features a new character as well as XIII protagonist Lightning. The press release wrote: Quote:

| Dirty Harry | New Final Fantasy XIII-2 details have arrived via Japanese mag Dengeki. The 2011 sequel, which saw its HD trailer released last week, is set to feature a darker tone than the original game and won't have a pop feel like FFX-2, producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama told the mag. They said: Quote:

| Dirty Harry | Square Enix has released a few screenshots and a high-quality render of the new look Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII-2. The screens provide a better look at Lightning's new armour, which makes her look like she's been ripped straight out of a SoulCalibur game. Although her weapon seems like it has been modelled after her FF13 blade, it seems to have been integrated into her gauntlet. Fans of Final Fantasy X-2 will notice that her new costume has quite a few similarities to Yuna's. Also pictured is the mysterious male character. Square Enix has said characters from the first FFXIII will show up in the game, but the mystery-man is a completely new character for the title. The game's producer, Yoshinori Kitase, and director, Motomu Toriyama, have said that the developer has listened to criticism of the last title and promises its latest exceeds Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect. | Dirty Harry | A few months ago Square-Enix released a gorgeous trailer teasing that Lighting's story did not conclude with Final Fantasy XIII. We've been hungry for more information since, but today we've got two new screenshots two show off, both including new male party member, Noel. Along with the two screens, Andriasang also had this plot synopsis to share, claiming it's straight from Square-Enix: Quote:
We mentioned in our Darksiders II cover reveal that we've got an exclusive first hands-on with Final Fantasy XIII-2 in issue #119. So if you like what you're seeing here, be sure to check out that issue to learn more. Sources: andriasang.com and gameinformer.com

| Dirty Harry | Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be released early 2012 on PS3 and Xbox 360, Square Enix has announced. The date comes at the end of a new E3 video for the Final Fantasy XIII sequel. The Final Fantasy XIII-2 video shows returning heroine Lightning meeting and fighting alongside a new hero. The battle scenes are spectacular. The game remains one of Square Enix's big hopes after a torrid financial year. Let's hope the slight FFXIII-2 delay signifies an uncompromising focus on quality by Square Enix. Source: eurogamer.net

| Dirty Harry | Square-Enix has announced that we in the West can expect the sequel Final Fantasy XIII-2 early 2012. The game continues where the previous adventure ended, but details are still scarse on the game and that even on the biggest show of them all, E3. Luckily we did get our hands on the trailer. | Dirty Harry | Continuing the flood of Final Fantasy XIII-2 factoids floating out of hands-on previews at E3, Square Enix has apparently decided to shake up the original FFXIII’s formula somewhat. Siliconera got some time with the game and reports it has shaken off the run down a corridor feel of FFXIII. Maps now wind through the environment and proceed to the next story point along multiple paths. Additionally, the dash-and-bash formula is intermittently interrupted by a mini-game called Beyond the Void. It sounds a little like a sliding-tile puzzle, where the tiles disappear once used. Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=166193 FFXIII carried on FFXII’s tradition of avoidable random encounters, adding the spice of ambushes if you took the enemy by surprise. FFXIII-2 will do something similar, with the addition of a Mog Clock timer. Catch your foe while the clock’s in the green and you’ll have the advantage – in the red? Not so much. In combat, a special, monster-based ability called feral link appears when a gauge fills. You’re supposed to crack it out at every possible chance rather than wait around for special occasions. The monsters you bring into battle change with your paradigm, too – magic-using flans in ravager, for example. The game will also feature multiple endings in a series first. FFXIII-2 is due on Western PlayStation 3s and Xbox 360s in early 2012. Sources: siliconera.com and vg247.com

| Dirty Harry | Optima Change system changing to Paradigm Shift system in Japanese version. Jump has a one page report on Final Fantasy XIII-2 this week. There isn't much new beyond what was announced at E3, except for the following bits: • The magazine has Japanese language screenshots (all the E3 shots, and the E3 trailer, were English) • The magazine says that the name for the "Optima Change" system has been changed to the English version's "Paradigm Shift." This system lets you switch the roles/jobs of your party members instantly during battle. Famitsu and Dengeki are supposed to have reports on the game this week, so we can hopefully look forward to additional details. Source: andriasang.com

| Dirty Harry | Eagle-eyed fans have called out Square Enix for releasing fake screenshots of the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII-2. Unofficial Final Fantasy Site spotted two seemingly identical FFXIII-2 screenshots: an Xbox 360 version included in Square Enix’s E3 asset release, and a PlayStation 3 version posted in Famitsu as well as seeing general release on the game’s website. Seen side by side, it’s hard to believe both were live captured from their respective consoles, as opposed to, you know, having certain elements altered. Square Enix has admitted to screenshot shenanigans in the past, mistakenly releasing identical Final Fantasy XIII screenshots with differing console key prompts ‘shopped in. The two console versions of Final Fantasy XIII turned out to harbour noticeable graphical performances. | Dirty Harry | Noel joins the Final Fantasy XIII cast as the main character of Final Fantasy XIII-2. But he won't be the only major new character in the game. In an interview in this week's Famitsu (summed up at Sokuho), art director Isamu Kamikokuryo reveals that there will be other new main characters besides Noel. It's unclear what Kamikokuryo means by main characters, as the game's producer and director have said that the story will center on Noel and Serah, the two characters who were playable in the E3 demo. At the very least, it looks like we can expect some additional major additions to the cast. Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=166193 Characters from the original FFXIII will be returning as well, of course. Kamikokuryo said that players will be able to see slightly grown up versions of the past characters, and how they're now living. Kamikokuryo's discussion also shed a few additional details on who's working on FFXIII-2, along with some additional hints about the game: • The staff remains mostly the same from the original. • Tetsuya Nomura handled designs for the characters' faces while the bodies and clothing were handled by other FF series art directors. • The character shown standing back-to-back with Lightning in the game's original January trailer was designed by Yusuke Naora. • The enemies that appear in the Neo Bodham area are a new category of enemy that are neither from Cocoon nor Pulse. They're designed by lead art designer Toshitaka Matsuda. • There is a common pattern that appears on Lightning's shield and Serah's clothing. When playing the game, you'll find out why the pattern is the same. • A number of people submitted Moogle designs, but in the end they went with Matsuda's design. Matsuda also designed Lightning's sword, NPCs, new monsters, backgrounds, and the summons which appear in a different form from the original. • Similar to the original, Lightning's sword can transform between gun and sword. • The game's maps weren't finalized from the start this time. Instead, they're letting the staff fill the maps with ideas for things like short-cuts and so-forth. They're letting the staff be free to do trial and error in this area. • Because of the tight production schedule, they didn't have much time for pre production. They didn't even have enough time to do much in the way of setting drawings. In some cases, they used photographs and other resources to explain things. Looking at the bright side, Kamikokuryo said that this actually made it easier to get the point across, and allowed them to change their approach to direction. Source: andriasang.com
